Wine Advocate Review Rated 92 The 2006 Sierra Cantabria Cuvee Especial was sourced from a single terroir planted to 30-year-old Tempranillo vines and aged for 12 months in French and American oak before spending 4 additional months in new French oak. Purple/black in color, it exhibits a brooding bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, espresso, spice box, and black fruits. Layered, plush and complex on the palate, this extracted effort is ripe, savory, and exceptionally concentrated. It will evolve for 3-4 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2026.
Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 92 Another great Tempranillo from Sierra Cantabria? Indeed it is. The nose bleeds cedary, sweet black fruit aromas and coconut, while the palate is pure and layered, with a lush feel and rich flavors of black fruits and chocolate. Long and lasting on the finish, and delicious overall. Approachable now but ageable for at least five years.
